Maintain Your Armed Security License: Class G 4-Hour Annual Recertification

Florida law requires all Class “G” Armed Security Officers to complete an annual 4-hour requalification to maintain their license. This course satisfies that requirement and provides the official Certificate of Firearms Proficiency (CFP) to submit to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Taught by Jim Mauney, a seasoned instructor with over 50 years of experience in law enforcement, SWAT, and emergency response, this course goes beyond the minimum standards to refresh your knowledge, reinforce safety, and sharpen your skills. 

What You’ll Learn

• Florida Gun Laws & Firearms Statutes (Ch. 493, 775, 776, 790) 
• Criminal & Civil Liability for Armed Security 
• Gun Safety & Responsible Carry 
• Firearm Handling & Clearing Malfunctions 
• Fundamentals of Marksmanship 
• Shooting from Multiple Positions (standing, kneeling, prone, barricade) 
• Live-Fire Qualification with Defensive Handgun 
• Optional: Requalification for Rifle or Shotgun (see below)
   

What You’ll Need to Bring

• A defensive handgun (9mm, .380, .38 or .357 revolver) 
• 150 rounds of factory ammunition 
• Eye and ear protection (prescription glasses OK if needed) 
• Flashlight 
• Gun belt with proper holster 
• 3 extra magazines (or speed loaders for revolvers) 
• Magazine or speed loader pouches 
• Weapons cleaning kit 
• Valid photo ID 
• Notepad and pen (optional)
   

All student-supplied firearms must pass a safety inspection prior to use. Firearm rentals available for $20.
 

What to Wear

• Closed-toe shoes (sneakers or boots only) 
• Long pants with a strong belt (no sweatpants or shorts) 
• Crew-neck t-shirt or collared shirt (no tank tops or low-cut tops) 
• Brimmed hat (optional but recommended)
   

What Not to Bring or Wear

• No ammunition in the classroom 
• No open-toe shoes, sandals, or inappropriate attire 
• No alcohol, drugs, or intoxicated persons 
• No loaded firearms outside of the range area
   

Qualification Requirements

• Course of fire: up to 3 cycles of 48 rounds (144 rounds total max) 
• Qualification may be completed early if a passing score is achieved on any cycle
   

Optional Rifle Requalification

• Semi-auto rifle or carbine (.223, 5.56, 9mm, etc.) 
• 2 magazines (30 rounds each) 
• Up to 3 total cycles (90 rounds maximum) 
• Cost: $75
   

Optional Shotgun Requalification

• 12-gauge or appropriate caliber shotgun 
• 24 rounds of “00” buckshot 
• Up to 3 cycles (8 rounds each) 
• Cost: $75
